This is actually an issue. What I don't like is that anybody can download now, and nobody has to give any credit. On similar sites to this, I discovered a "rep to see this hidden area" button, where users have to add to the poster's reputation (or in this case, add a WRZ$) before they get to see the links.

I think this would not only improve membership, but also participation, and discourage total anonymity/leeching. Just a thought; I've finally gotten my ideas down

I agree with the idea of the hidden download instructions unless a reg user. Another site will allow a few downloads before the user must be a member. This may also be an option, drawn them in then get them to join. Keeping the can't search unless a reg user is good. Having unreg downloads (willi nilli) isn't really fair on the uploader and doesn't give a clear indication of the popularity of the post. The idea of the reg user giving a thumbs up is good, user pays, so to speak :) . What of the more specialist requirements though. I will admit that I enjoy mm novels, these are not to everyones taste :?: .
Will it mean that the more popular genres (mf, sci-fi, fantasy, crime), will get the most credit and encouragement, and the less popular (mm, clas lit, bio's etc) will be disheartened because of the lower credits and smaller response?

Can I follow up my criticism with... more criticism? (Darn, I don't mean to, but still.)

It's pretty inconvenient to actually "thank" somebody right now. Thanking them requires you jump to another page, and then jump back, two more full page-loads than are necessary. This one can be fixed easily too: AJAX or something similar is really needed here.

Also, I've noticed the rewards in the Movies section is a little... flawed. Big releasers always (or at least, very often) get rewarded, but when I released something, a mod commented they can hand out rewards at their discretion. Huh? I figured either you would or you wouldn't, but picking and choosing could lead to favoritism issues.

WRZ$ aren't real money, but I still really wanna earn them.

My personal opinion is that users think if they thank a post the WRZ$ come from their own points so they don't bother thanking uploaders, my suggestion is to code the links so that registered users can see them and you can have more control over the down-loaders ,ie..need so many posts before downloads are available ect.. Please consider bringing back the old system to reward up-loaders

I believe this method has been around long enough that most all 'active' users already know that. I think it's only that, most people can't be bothered to take a second and click the button. Which is also a problem on other popular forums, where releasers have banners in the release, and in their signatures, encouraging others to "Take 2 seconds" to thank them.

Maybe if someone was to make a small one for their signature here on mobilism, their hits may increase. ;)

Good point. I made a release here: viewtopic.php?f=121&t=249180 I have been thanked 4 times, BUT it has been downloaded 219 times!!!!

People are just selfish and self-adsorbed.

I originally really liked the idea of this system, but when it is used as a standalone reward system without mod awarded WRZ$, it really doesn't seem viable. I suggest reverting to the previous system of awarding for each release but also leaving this system in place as a bonus.

If releasers aren't being consistently rewarded by some method beyond this thumbs up scheme, they soon will stop releasing and the site will eventually lose members/traffic/etc to other sites and inevitably will fail.

I don't mean to offend anyone with my opinion, but that seems to be where this is headed.

I agree with lowfive. The new system just isn't implemented well enough (right now) to be viable.

My last multiple book release, with 16 books, had 120 downloads and 4 thumbs, it would previously had a reward of 75.
Until I get at least 50 thumbs on that post under the new rewards system, thats the last book post from me then!
Shame as I just got The Famous Five series with original illustrations, which won't be posted by me now.

No point at all in posting collections any more IMHO.

In the Movies section, the Mod STILL rewards the poster, why can't the same apply to eBooks?

Also, when links are dead and obsolete, why can't the poster who supplies new links not be given a Thumbs-up? Or even better, that post should be deleted and that way allow a new post/topic.

Correction: The mod rewards the poster IF HE/SHE FEELS LIKE IT. If they don't like you, they can choose to not reward you.

Everyone is in the same boat as you, meaning we're somewhat appreciating the value of WRZ$ as a currency, a result we actually want. WRZ$ became too easy to get and we had members with several ten thousand WRZ$, although aside from requests the most expensive thing you can get with WRZ$ is VIP status (at 2500 WRZ$). It made no sense. There was too much of it going around with too little practical use. However keep in mind that with the old system you got a reward once and that was it, with the new one, you get a steady stream of income. If you're interested in increasing your WRZ$ amount, this means its in your best interests to keep your download links working, whereas with the old system it didn't matter. Finally, if you're still disappointed, at the end of the day, does WRZ$ really matter more to you than providing something this community would enjoy?

Dunno even how to put it in economic terms. If Mobilism was a country then there would be an astoundingly affluent upper class (with a whole lot of clout), a struggling middle class, and a whole bloody army of unemployed poor.

And if there were political parties, I would say that a little government intervention might be in order here. Even if rewards values were lowered tremendously. I would rather receive 5WRZ for sure than... possibly 5 over the next year or so.

But there is an easier solution. Just make it a requirement to "like" before you can download. It's not hard. It will bring in a large influx of immigrants. Maybe you can give a fractional WRZ reward for people who take the time to involve them even more. It will make developers feel appreciated. If it drives the value of the WRZ point down, then raise benefits to compensate. These things don't need to be static values.

I think making a post with hundreds of downloads and no rewards just annoys the hell out of posters.
It sure annoys the hell out of me.
Maybe I will start posting books again sometime in the future, but I will post series 1 book at a time, no book 2 until book 1 gets 5 thumbs.
