This is actually an issue. What I don't like is that anybody can download now, and nobody has to give any credit. On similar sites to this, I discovered a "rep to see this hidden area" button, where users have to add to the poster's reputation (or in this case, add a WRZ$) before they get to see the links.
I think this would not only improve membership, but also participation, and discourage total anonymity/leeching. Just a thought; I've finally gotten my ideas down
I agree with the idea of the hidden download instructions unless a reg user. Another site will allow a few downloads before the user must be a member. This may also be an option, drawn them in then get them to join. Keeping the can't search unless a reg user is good. Having unreg downloads (willi nilli) isn't really fair on the uploader and doesn't give a clear indication of the popularity of the post. The idea of the reg user giving a thumbs up is good, user pays, so to speak . What of the more specialist requirements though. I will admit that I enjoy mm novels, these are not to everyones taste .
Will it mean that the more popular genres (mf, sci-fi, fantasy, crime), will get the most credit and encouragement, and the less popular (mm, clas lit, bio's etc) will be disheartened because of the lower credits and smaller response?
