At 33 million records our search was getting too large for the old method we were using, and as a result our servers kept getting overloaded during the site's peak hours. We have now changed the standard phpbb fulltext we had to sphinx (http://sphinxsearch.com/), a search engine that is highly optimized for large databases. Not only does this improve performance and search speed (we went from search queries taking up to a second at peak times to 0.027 seconds) but it allows you to search for words with two or three letters, which was previously impossible.

If you encounter any errors please let us know. We are aware of the fact that some posts made during the search downtime will not be show up. They are being re-indexed as we speak.

EDIT: search engine is not indexing new posts after all, we are fixing it.

Not able to search book that was posted but not yet categorized.
This used to happen to the previous search but was able to get around with filter set to "Normal". With this new search, the workaround does not work.
In other words, if you get no result, it could be that the related post is still waiting in the "eBook Releases"... does not mean it has not been posted by someone else already.

Just a note on this. It is not confined to just posts made during the search downtime. Even posts made and categorized after the search downtime do not appear in any search.

Likewise new posts made since then. Any post made prior shows in a search for "View your own posts". Any posts made during or after do not show.

Search looks like it is down again and this is right too, I've made several postings since the upgrade and nothing showing yet.

The new search engine is not as good as the old one. My favourite magazines no longer appear. The old search engine worked fine for me.
