There have been several incidents in the past couple days of accounts being hijacked through users downloading some of the files posted in typical spam posts, or accessing the links in them. Just about always these posts are in the form of either PC releases, all of which are obviously not formatted and not for this forum making them easy to spot, or porn. If you do find any such posts, report them by clicking on the Image beneath the post, select spam and submit. Do not download any of the files on them or click on the links.

If spam is posted from your account, it will be banned. You will need to email me at lifehacker [at] ppcwarez.org to get it unbanned.

This may sound stupid but how is a personal PPCWAREZ account hijacked from downloading a file posted in a thread?

Not sure but Ive been receiving a lot of emails from users who have been banned for posting spam yet who claim it was not them. Same story with everyone and the spam was not posted from the IP they registered with (or even an IP in their country).

perhaps its done by creating a phising site that looks like ppcwarez and told you to login, and the hijacker posted the link in the forum, so always cek the site address if its not ppcwarez.org then don't enter your ppcwarez login data. and use strong password as your protection

Everyone is aware of email phishing and on the look out for it but what you say is very possible and can catch many off guard as one (at least me) hardly ever looks hard at where links in a forum takes you. Going to a fake ppcwarez login page would not trigger many to think twice since you clicked from ppcwarez and you may just think you had not logged in or gotten logged somehow earlier.

@sdawson - if this becomes a larger problem, would it be hard to code a script to scan posts for urls including ppcwarez and ensure they end in "ppcwarez.org".

I see where you're coming from but this would probably cause more problems then it would solve. I think awareness is the key.

A serious Browser like Firefox and Opera (others dont count :D ) encrypt the saved passwords, so thats definetily not the problem.
