SPORTS CENTER CONTEST #227
AUTO RACING 2 FOR 1

For our Sunday 2 for 1, we had two motor racing events wrapped up into one contest and to win, we had to guess the winner in each.

CONTEST ONE - FORMULA 1

The Singapore Grand Prix is a motor race which forms part of the FIA Formula One World Championship. The event takes place on the Marina Bay Street Circuit and was the inaugural night race and first street circuit in Asia for F1 races. It is a twisty circuit that is the slowest in Formula One running at normal race distance above 305 kilometres. The bumpiness, the heavy braking zones, the lack of daylight, the humidity and some 90-degree turns makes the race very testing for both drivers and cars.

Final results:
WINNER - Lewis Hamilton
2nd - Max Verstappen
3rd - Sebastian Vettel

Faultless and supreme, Hamilton defied the hot and humid conditions to keep his cool to clinch his 69th F1 win.
Faltering title rival Sebastian Vettel was third. But, on a circuit where Mercedes were forecast to struggle, the Ferrari driver crossed the line almost 40 seconds behind Hamilton having angrily denounced his team's strategy after being leapfrogged by Verstappen at the pit-stops.

Hamilton turned on the style on track, delivering one of the finest laps of his career to land a critical pole position and his performance on race day was equally impressive. A smart getaway was followed by smart strategy as Hamilton kept Verstappen and Vettel at arm's length…his race-winning margin ultimately stood at nearly 10 seconds!

CONTEST TWO - NASCAR

The South Point 400 race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway is not only the first in a run of 10 races for the elimination-style playoffs to crown NASCAR’s newest champion, but it also commemorates the first time that the Cup Series raced at the track twice in one year.

Final results:
WINNER - Brad Keselowski
2nd - Kyle Larson
3rd - Martin Truex Jr.

Harvick was looking for back-to-back LVMS wins after he dominated the March race in Vegas. But it was an entirely different story today. Like Busch, he rarely featured in the top 5 and had a hard time hanging on to his brief stint as leader. To make matters worse, his car had some mechanical problems that meant he couldn’t finish the race. Truex Jr. had the lead during the last 50 laps but couldn’t maintain it…and it was Keselowski who raced to victory at LVMS.
