SPORTS CENTER CONTEST #217
FRIDAY 2 FOR 1

Men’s Singles Semi Final

Thanks to wellwhocares we already know the result of our first SF matchup...

Juan Martin del Potro beat Rafael Nadal 7-6(3) 6-2 (retd.)

Defending champ and No. 1 seed Rafael Nadal was outplayed in this Semi until he had to retire due to knee tendinitis. Del Potro is through to his second US Open Final, where he will likely meet Novak Djokovic.

In the other SF matchup, Djokovic leads Nishikori by a set and a break and seems on course to victory.
EDIT: Djokovic won in straight sets 6-3 6-4 6-2

4 people had picked Del Potro to win and have a shot at this half of our Daily Double :D
EDIT: 4 people had the correct winning combination - Del Potro and Djokovic. Congrats!

Baseball Home Teams Astros at Red Sox is currently underway and the home team leads 1-0 bottom of the 4th inning.
EDIT: Home team is now down 2-3 bottom of the 7th.

Dodgers at Rockies is tied 2-2 end of the 3rd.

Good luck and stay tuned for the winners update ;)

SPORTS CENTER CONTEST #217
FRIDAY 2 FOR 1

In this 2 for 1 edition, we had two contests wrapped into one. The first was a Daily Double featuring the US Open Men’s Semi-Finals where we had to guess the winner in both matches to win. The second half of our 2 for 1 featured two baseball games where we had to predict how many of the home teams would win — 0, 1 or 2.

CONTEST 1 - MEN'S SINGLES SEMI FINALS - DAILY DOUBLE

MATCH ONE
(1) Rafael Nadal vs. (3) Juan Martin Del Potro
Image

2009 champion Del Potro dominated this match from the start and Nadal had no answers today to the Argentine’s groundstrokes. Unfortunately, Nadal suffered a severe case of knee tendinitis during the match and was forced to retire. Del Potro is through to his second US Open Final.

MATCH TWO
(6) Novak Djokovic vs. (21) Kei Nishikori
Image

Djokovic beat Nishikori in straight sets to make it through to the US Open Final for the eight time. The Serb has now beaten Nishikori 14 times in a row since losing to him in the semi-finals here in 2014.

4 people correctly picked both DEL POTRO and DJOKOVIC

= 63 WRZ$ each.

CONTEST 2 - BASEBALL HOME TEAMS

GAME ONE
Houston Astros at Boston Red Sox
Image

The two first place teams squared off tonight. Things were looking very good for Red Sox for the first six innings of the game. The offense wasn’t great, but they got a couple of rallies going against Gerrit Cole and put a couple runs on the board. That was enough for much of the night because David Price was masterful. In one of the best games of his strong season, the lefty shut down the Astros for six innings. BUT he got into trouble and left two baserunners for his bullpen, and then things fell apart. Houston took a 3-2 lead in the blink of an eye, and after the Red Sox tied it back up Joe Kelly came in for the eighth and he allowed three more runs.

GAME TWO
Los Angeles Dodgers at Colorado Rockies
Image

Starting tonight the Colorado Rockies are hosting the Los Angeles Dodgers for a three-game series at Coors Field, the most home run happy ballpark on Earth. Those two clubs, as well as the Arizona Diamondbacks, are locked in a tight three-team race for the NL West title. The home team led by 1 until the top of the 5th when Dodgers scored 2 runs to lead by 2....and the Rockies just couldn’t even it up the rest of the game.

Since NONE of the home teams won the correct answer was 0.

2 people correctly picked 0
Angel Sardar
johngriffen

= 125 WRZ$ each.

…and no one had the winning combination in BOTH contests so nobody wins the bonus.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE WINNERS

SPORTS CENTER CONTEST #219

NFL UNDERDOGS

The sports action continues on Sunday... So there will be two contests for the day
FIRST, to the NFL, where we have a full slate of games, including some real losers.
So, it's time for another edition of UNDERDOGS
For those not familiar with the term, Underdogs are the exact opposite of the Favorites. The term is usually shorted to simply "the dog". When you hear the expression, "who is the dog in this match", somebody is asking which team or player is not the favorite. The term is usually only used when somebody or some team is really over matched.

For this NFL Sunday Football edition of UNDERDOGS, we will provide you with three games. Unlike Slaughter Rule where we are asking you to pick which one will lose by the most points, here we are simply asking "Will all three of these teams lose?"

Your job will be simple... Say YES, which means you think all three will lose, or Say NO, which means you think at least one of these three teams will actually win.
So, it doesn't get any easier than this, just a YES or a NO

INFORMATION
GAME ONE

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at New Orleans Saints - 9
The lowly Buccaneers go into the Super Dome to play the FAR stronger Saints.
The Saints are favored to win by 9 points in this game and some experts think it will be even worse than that

GAME TWO
Also at Noon...
Cleveland Browns at Pittsburgh Steelers - 10
The Browns have only won 1 out of 32 games in the last two years. While they have improved some, the Steelers are favored to win this one by 10 points. Oh, this could get ugly

GAME THREE
The Sunday Night Game...
Chicago Bears at Green Bay Packers - 9
My beloved Bears go up to the middle of god forsaken nowhere to play the Green Bay Packers
The Bears have truly sucked for many years now, while the Packers are usually one of the division leaders.
The Packers are favored to win this one by 9 points. Now granted, the Bears have really added a lot to the team in the off season, but for the bookies to make them 9 point dogs, that says it all... SIGH

The underdogs are in BOLD and RED

What is it?
A contest where you predicting whether ALL three of these underdogs will lose. Say YES, which means you think all three dogs will lose, or Say NO, which means you think at least one of these three teams will actually win.

How do you play?
To enter this contest, you will need to post the following:
NFL UNDERDOGS
And post either YES for ALL THREE dogs losing or NO for at least one of them winning

EXAMPLE POST
NFL UNDERDOGS
YES

Rules:
Predict correctly and you win
Only 1 post per person for this specific contest, any more and all of your posts will be disallowed.

ALL PICKS MUST BE MADE PRIOR TO THE FOLLOWING TIMES:
SUNDAY NOON Chicago (UTC -5)
SUNDAY 5 PM GMT (UTC +0)
Any picks made after this deadline will simply be ignored.
Any edits after this deadline, and your post will be disallowed.

Reward:
If you guess correctly, you will share the 500 WRZ$ pool

So it's that easy, a correct Yes or No could win you this edition of NFL UNDERDOGS

Stay tuned for the second Sunday Contest... coming soon to a forum near you :D

And don't forget to sign up for the Saturday Contest... there is still over 7 hours left to sign up

Rugby Championship: Wallabies down Springboks 23-18 in Brisbane to snap losing streak

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-09-08/w ... k/10160692

The Wallabies have snapped a four-match losing streak and relieved pressure on coach Michael Cheika with a gritty 23-18 win over the Springboks.

It wasn't pretty, but Australia overcame the disruption of losing Israel Folau and Adam Coleman earlier in the day to grind out an important result and revive their Rugby Championship campaign.

After two tries apiece in the first half, the only points in the second came through a pair of Matt Toomua penalties which settled the match in the home team's favour at a slippery Lang Park.
