Yesterday's view in front of my house, with my wonderful maple tree . . .

matina, another chilly and rainy day . . . only 12 degrees again. I sat out on the patio briefly, but Sunnya didn't turn up. Smart fuzzy! Rishi is enjoying her late brunch after a couple of hours of bird watching. Heading over to my physio at 3 pm.

Katy, yep, that's 'my' Grand Clifftop Walk, just a bit beyond my house. I live on a very scenic trail now! Cold enough for a fire today and I'm going to get one going soon. Guess autumn is really here now. My niece in Maine is getting spring snow now. Will send photos later.

CNN report . . . "Nor'easter . . . widespread power outages have been reported in Maine and New Hampshire early today as a late season nor'easter dumps heavy snow on parts of the Northeast. The outages have impacted more than 400,000 homes and businesses, leaving many without heat in the frigid conditions. Authorities are advising people to avoid unnecessary travel in some areas as toppled trees and downed power lines have left many roads impassable. Already, snow accumulations in New England have exceeded a foot, with Moretown, Vermont, seeing a whopping 24 inches of snow in less than three days and Shapleigh, Maine, seeing around 21 inches."

Megalong Valley now cut off from the Blue Mountains. Air drops of food may be necessary.

matina, hope things will be quieter for you today and that you can have a more restful weekend. Rain has stopped here and sun is shining. Sunnya and I were able to sit out in the backyard for a while. Nothing much planned for today. Fuzzies seem well.

Katy, yes, my niece and nephews and their families were surprised by all the snow, after a winter with only a little snowfall. All have generators at their houses, so get through the power outages OK. We had lots of rain here but no flooding in the upper mountains. Had my fire going for two evenings and it was very nice and comfy. Sunnya especially enjoys a good fire! Glad you got through the flooding OK. Just heard that Warragamba Dam has started overflowing as of early this morning, two days earlier than expected.

My maple tree is looking better and better . . .

Whoa! Something went wrong at Mobi and I lost my entire message! Let's see if I can remember what I said . . . might be a shorter reply this time . . .

matina, I was asking how you're doing and hoping that you're well. Let us know.

Katy, I was answering your questions about the Megalong Valley and commenting on the massive Katoomba waterfall.

As far as has been reported in the Gazette, the Megalong Valley is entirely cut off. There's only that one road down there from Blackheath. No doubt they're going to have to find a solution very soon. Can't quite imagine air drops of supplies! Waterfall usually looks like a thick, white rope, so that's a huge increase in water in less than two days.

All OK here . . . sunny and quiet. No tourists walking past yesterday, but a bushwalking group of about 13 people just headed down the road.

Hope everyone is well. Bye for now . . .

HELLO ALL!
PJ WOW WHAT AWESOME PHOTOS FROM YOU AS ALWAYS! the snow porn is particularly of interest to me ;-) OH MY LORD what a disaster for the megalong valley residents too bad for anyone needing emergency treatment when there is no way out! the waterfall picture is just stunning thank you for posting that one i love waterfalls i love the sound the spray of the water plus they are visually so stunning yes mother nature at her best.
KATHY brownies book and coffee you have it made talk about being in heaven.
YES we had a good time with family and friends at my uncles 80TH birthday bash it was a nice evening out. mum felt sick after eating something with a spice we don't normally have but all things considered a nice evening out.
I have been busy with Satan and issues on Thursday next week geriatric multi disciplinary board will go out again to re asses him with a social worker and a geriatrician and geriatric nurse. All this is doing my head in lots to think about asses and organise, the biggest of witch is my own mobility to source some way be able to discharge my duties toward Satan and then the rest looking at nursing homes etc depending on the geriatric boards decision /assessment. navigating all this myself is very daunting to say the least and scary as all hell too so many government departments to deal with center-link nursing homes banks sacat boards geriatric boards Councillors and then the medical staff too and then Satan himself too
I welcome any and all prayers from anyone god help me.
be safe everyone and god bless and be with you all always.

matina, I'm so sorry to hear all that. Yes, you can be sure that I'm sending prayers and good wishes, hoping that a permanent solution can be found soon. Latest news up here is that some 300 people are trapped down in the Megalong Valley, including an entire wedding party. There are going to be three emergency routes out, two on bush tracks through private property and one on foot around the landslide. Police, SES and RFS will have to supervise people attempting to escape. Fall back plan will involve food and supplies brought in by helicopter. Bet that's a wedding no-one will ever forget! Take care . . . sun is setting here . . . fuzzies are fine.

matina, hope all goes well. Sending more good wishes. Had a talk with my niece last night and one with my bushwalking friend this afternoon. Rishi and I are watching birds at the moment.

Katy, we've been hearing reports about the Megalong Valley wedding and the amazing efforts to evacuate the wedding party. Some guests actually bushwalked 8 kms down into the Valley in the rain from Katoomba, so that they could attend. Now . . . it's up to the police, the SES and the RFS to somehow get them all out again, with no roads . . . bulldozers to the rescue . . .

"Evacuations of visitors trapped in the Megalong Valley have begun. Police led the operation to evacuate visitors via a private access road on Sunday, April 8. More than 100 people were trapped in the valley after a landslide cut off the only public access road during heavy rain on Friday night, April 5. 'Over the next couple of days visitors will be evacuated via that route,' Blue Mountains mayor Mark Greenhill told ABC Radio on Monday morning. He said cutting a temporary road through rock near the landslide site is one option being considered to reopen access to the Megalong Valley."

Years ago, I think my bushwalking friend and I walked down into the Megalong valley. It's not for the faint-hearted!

Bye for now . . .

matina, on Wednesday I'll check the train schedule again. According to my bushwalking friend, it's hard to predict when some buses will be used on the Blue Mountains line to allow for track maintenance. But if your cousin and her son don't mind buses, then all should be well. There's no overall stoppage of trains on the line because of the heavy rains and flooding. (My friend won't ride on buses, so he watches the schedules very carefully!) Checking up on my Medicare and HCF refunds for last month's hospital stay and operation, I finally rang HCF and they confirmed that my online 'two way' application had gone through successfully. The confusion is that the official HCF claims report totals the two claims, including the Medicare refund in the amount, implying that HCF is paying it all! So, in the end, out of the $3548 total cost, I'm receiving a total refund of only $963. Sigh. Anyhow, I'm relieved that the process is now finished. And I'm recovering. Sending more good wishes. Good night!
