Overview: Robin Raybould's Hieroglyph, Emblem and Renaissance Pictography is the first English translation of Ludwig Volkmann's Bilderschriften der Renaissance, the classic text which promoted the symbol as a defining cultural and literary characteristic of early modern Europe.
