SPORTS CENTER CONTEST #238 UNDERDOGS

For our Wednesday Night Underdogs edition, we looked at two games in the last week of Regular Season Baseball. All we had to do to win was either say YES if we thought BOTH the underdogs (in bold and red) would lose or say NO if we thought one of them could pull off a win.

GAME ONE
Baltimore Orioles at Boston Red Sox


Boston couldn’t complete the sweep in the nightcap of the Red Sox’s doubleheader against the Orioles, as Baltimore pounded the Sox 10-3 at Fenway Park on Wednesday night.
Chris Sale gave up three runs on four hits in his final start before Game 1 of the American League Division Series. Although his velocity wasn’t what it had been all season, the southpaw still collected eight strikeouts and issued just one walk over 4 2/3 innings of work. The two teams were knotted at three until the seventh inning when the O’s jumped on Boston’s bullpen for seven runs in the last three frames to take the series finale. With the loss, the Red Sox slipped to 107-52, while the Orioles improved to 46-112.

GAME TWO
Cleveland Indians at Chicago White Sox


The White Sox conducted a bullpen game Wednesday night and the Indians responded by taking nine innings of batting practice. Francisco Lindor started the night with his ninth leadoff homer, a franchise record, and his 37th homer overall. Edwin Encarnacion had three hits, including his 32nd homer, and drove in four runs to give him 105 for the season. The White Sox used seven pitchers, including starter Jace Fry, and the Indians finished with 16 hits on the way to a 10-2 victory at Guaranteed Rate Field.

JG was obviously bang on when he had said both favorites had already "clinched their divisions so they may decide to rest their players or not try very hard."

Both underdogs managed to win so the correct answer was No.

SPORTS CENTER CONTEST #240
MLB DAILY DOUBLE

It's the last Friday of the regular season for Major League Baseball
Many of the divisions have already been settled and we know who will be in the playoffs.
However, in the National League West, this weekend will determine who will win the division.

Currently, the Colorado Rockies have a slim 1/2 game lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers
LA Doesn't play tonight, but the Colorado does. So when Thursday ends, they will either be tied with the Dodgers, or one full game up going into the last weekend.

Either way, both these teams are in a must win situations for Friday Night.
This contest will focus on the two games they will be playing, so we will have a DAILY DOUBLE
And, since it's a Daily Double, you will have to make the correct prediction on BOTH games to win.

GAME ONE
Washington Nationals 81-78 at Colorado Rockies 88-70
Washington will be pitching one of their worst pitchers, and the Rockies haven't decided who will pitch on Friday yet... But the Nationals have been playing good lately, and will give the Rockies all they can handle

GAME TWO
Los Angeles Dodgers 88-71 at San Francisco Giants 73-86
The Dodgers will be pitching Hyun-Jin Ryu, a player who has been having a great year on the mound. The Giants counter with Madison Bumgarner, formerly one of the best pitchers around, but who has faced hard times in the last two years. He's still doing "ok" but nothing like he used to.
