What`s the new "Read phone status and identitiy" permission used for? Ads SDK?

In effect, to be honest, now when I check for updates in-app, or just reading the changelog.. it appears several very full screen invasive ADS on my phone, even if I have AdAway installed.. now I'm trying to discover wich host is contacting LP during utilization..
