How to Jailbreak iPad 3.2 with Spirit

Using Spirit

The following step by step guide will help you jailbreak your iPad WiFi or iPad 3G with iPad OS 3.2.

Step 1: Download and install the latest version of iTunes.

Step 2: You will need to be on the official iPad OS 3.2 (or iPhone 3.2) for iPad.

Step 3: Download Spirit for Windows or Mac (download link at the end of the post).

Step 4: Connect iPad with your computer, Run “Spirit” and then Click on “Jailbreak” (Note: Windows users may need to run the program as an administrator - Right-click on the .exe file and choose "Run as Administrator" from the menu. If you still have issues, try running it in compatibility mode as well. Right-click, go to Properties, Compatibility tab, and check the box "Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows 98/Me").

Step 5: Let the app do its thing and wait for the app to show “Jailbreak Complete!” message. At this point, wait for the iPad to automatically reboot.

Step 6: Voila! You should now have a fully jailbroken iPad on iPad OS 3.2. “Cydia” should be there in the list of applications on your iPad.

Updating Firmware

1. Open iTunes (make sure it's v9.2+) and connect your iPad WiFi or iPad 3G.
2. Select iPad under 'Devices' on the left.
3. If you're using Windows: Hold down the 'shift' key, and click on the restore button. If you're using a Mac: Hold down the 'option' key, and click on the restore button.
4. iTunes will pop up with a window which will let you browse for the .ipsw firmware file you want to install.
5. Wait while the firmware is being installed. (located in next post)

How to Sync your jailbroken apps via iTunes with Appsync for iPad

AppSync has been updated to bring support for the iPad. For those of you who don’t know, AppSync patches MobileInstallation file on iPhone and iPad OS which is needed in order to install .ipa files manually without using iTunes. A new version of AppSync has now been released which is compatible with the latest iPad 3.2 firmware. Make sure you have jailbroken your iPad on firmware 3.2 before following the steps below.


Step 1: Start “Cydia” on your iPad.

Step 2: Touch on “Manage” tab on the bottom.

Step 3: Now touch on “Sources”

Step 4: Touch on “Edit”, and then on “Add”. You should now be prompted to enter a url source as seen in the screenshot below. Type “http://cydia.hackulo.us” and click on“Add Source”.

Cydia will now automatically update your sources by following a series of automated steps.

Step 5: After installation is completed. Search for “AppSync for OS 3.2” in Cydia and install this application. This app will automatically patch mobileinstallation file on your jailbroken iPad running firmware 3.2.

How to run iPhone Apps in iPad resolution

This guide shows how to run most applications for iPhone on iPad in native resolution of iPad without pixelated graphics. You can do it with just about any iPhone application.

Step 1: Make sure you have OpenSSH installed on your iPad:
* Open Cydia. Touch on “Search” tab and then search for “OpenSSH”.
* Install “OpenSSH” and reboot your iPad.

Step 2: Connect your iPad with your computer. Make sure iTunes is not running.

Step 3: Download and install Cyberduck for Mac or WinSCP for Windows. Enter the following details to login to your iPad:

Cyberduck
* Server
: The IP address of your iPad. Settings –> WiFi –> <Your Network Name>
* Username: root
* Password: alpine
* Protocol: SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol)

WinSCP
* Hostname: The IP address of your iPad. Setting –> WiFi –> <Your Network Name>
* User name: root
* Password: alpine
* Protocol: SCP

Step 4: Navigate to /var/mobile/Applications/ directory. Choose the application of your choice.

Step 5: Edit the info.plist file in TextEdit or TextWrangler and add the following lines directly below <dict>:
<key>UIDeviceFamily</key>
<array>
<integer>1</integer>
<integer>2</integer>
</array>

Step 6: Save this file and disconnect your iPad.

Step 7: Now simply restart your iPad. Voila ! You should now have your iPhone app running in native resolution of iPad – without any pixelation !

Enabling Voice Control

The following guide will help you enable “Voice Control” feature which is found in iPhone 3GS and the 3rd-gen iPod touch 3G.


Step 1: Make sure you have OpenSSH installed on your iPad:
* Open Cydia. Touch on “Search” tab and then search for “OpenSSH”.
* Install “OpenSSH” and reboot your iPad.

Step 2: Connect your iPad with your computer. Make sure iTunes is not running.

Step 3: Download and install Cyberduck for Mac or WinSCP for Windows. Enter the following details to login to your iPad:

Cyberduck

* Server: The IP address of your iPad. Settings –> WiFi –> <Your Network Name>
* Username: root
* Password: alpine
* Protocol: SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol)

WinSCP

* Hostname: The IP address of your iPad. Setting –> WiFi –> <Your Network Name>
* User name: root
* Password: alpine
* Protocol: SCP

Step 4: Navigate to /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/ directory.

Step 5: Edit the K48AP.plist file in TextEdit or TextWrangler and add the following lines as shown:

<true/>

Step 6: Save this file and disconnect your iPad.

Step 7: Now simply restart your iPad. Voila ! You can now use ‘Voice Control’ feature by simply holding the "Home” button on your iPad until you see “Voice Control” screen on your iPad.
