Not about authors this time just something I've been noticing lately. An increasing amount of trade and paperback books released in Australia (not sure if the same problem occurs in the US market) the covers are printed on a very soft thin plastic sheet which is then attached to the book itself. If you aren't careful while reading the sheet starts to lift off at the edges and if it peels off you are left with a blank cover. This either a cheap and nasty production method or a way of trying to prevent people from selling/trading books on the second hand market. Either way it's damned annoying.

I haven't seen that in the US, but I have seen too many paperbacks where the cover comes off completely. The glue they are using has changed, or they aren't using enough. I've taken to giving a book a gentle tug on the front and back covers before I buy it, just to be safe. :(
