Hi

I'm looking for some books that were written by Harry Harrison. They are part of his Deathworld series, but they were written with a Russian author and were published only in Russia. The titles are Return to Deathworld, Deathworld vs. Filibusters, The Creatures from Hell & Deathworld 7.

Do you guys know of a library or site that I can borrow these books from?

I live in the United States if it matters.

Thank you

Guys, I have these books in ePub and txt. The first three are in cooperation with Art Scalandis (Anton Molchanov in reality), not the very best Russian SF writer (I'd say IMHO, but have read similar opinions from other people...)
The 7th book is better, written by H.H.and Mikhail Akhmanov, a.k.a. Mikhail Nahmanson, a known translator of mostly American SF, recently turned into writer of his own right.
Please let me know if somebody still needs those books - in RUSSIAN !!!

wish i checked this thread last year but i am willing to try doing a rough translation through an online translator and see how it turns out. hopefully passable, if not maybe a bunch of us can start a fundraiser to buy a translator service. i never thought someone would have them. Now I have them too. Thanks JJBB.

I'll report back my findings once I get around to trying what I have in mind.

Ok turns out google translate isn't bad and allowed me to translate the entire book about a minute. I'm using Deathworld IV as a test case. I converted the epub into a txt file and translated that. Then posted all the translated text into wordpad since I don't have word. I'll probably just use google docs for the bulk of the editing. I compared Google, Microsoft, and another top-ranked free online translator. Google seemed the best in the chapter sample I used but Microsoft had a bit better sounding grammar. So for English only speakers/readers to get the best result you need to compare the translations and kinda pluck parts from each and fit them together. Russian doesn't translate into English word for word so the translated book needs a lot of editing. Most sentences have to be restructured to make sense in English.really can't do all this alone and to pay for an actual translation service is too expensive. I got a few quotes and average was around $23k per book. So I either need to form a fan translation team or do a Kickstarter/gofundme/private fundraiser which would require some kind of legal permission i'm sure. I doubt the publisher would just give anyone that. Deathworld 4 was published in 1998 so copywrite isn't gone like with how 1-3 is. And I have no idea how many readers/fans would show up to pledge. I do not have the skills or time to run a campaign of that magnitude. So a fan translation and editing team seem's like a better direction. But where does one even start looking for people still interested in continuing a 1960 sci-fi series that needs a massive amount of editing? Anyone know of good places to try finding people? If people can be found, and hopefully a individual or two to lead or help lead the project. I can do some but not all. Need enough people to where each person can take a few chapters and get a first draft edit done in a months or two. Needs to move fast because 4-7 are full-length books, unlike 1-3. Perhaps if Deathworld 4 was finished more would jump in to help with the next 3. If anyone wants to help PM me. I'm not going to even make an attempt to solo this.

Return to Deathworld (Wikipedia)
The Return to Deathworld series is a collaboration between Harry Harrison and Russian authors Ant Skalandis and Mikhail Akhmanov and has never been published in English. The exact share of Harrison's participation is unclear, as Skalandis has also written several sequels to late Edmond Hamilton's books, and they were published in Russian under both their names.

These are:

Возвращение в Мир смерти (Return to Deathworld. 1998) by Harrison and Skalandis
Мир смерти против флибустьеров (Deathworld vs. Filibusters, 1998) by Harrison and Skalandis
Мир смерти и твари из преисподней (The Creatures from Hell, 1999) by Harrison and Skalandis
Мир смерти. Недруги по разуму (Foes in Intelligence, also known as Deathworld 7, 2001) by Harrison & Akhmanov
In Return to Deathworld, a strange planetoid is detected heading for a densely populated star cluster. Anybody who looks at it or a recording of it is overcome by irrational fear. The collective governing body of the cluster hires the Pyrrans to investigate and, if the planetoid is dangerous, destroy it. Things get complicated when the planetoid is discovered to arrive from another universe with different physical laws (e.g. π is exactly 2) and Jason and Meta get kidnapped by the insane master in control of the thing.

The second part of Return to Deathworld describes Jason's adventures at the galactic core, strangely mirroring the ancient myth of the Argonauts (including the fact that the hero is named Jason and the battleship's new name is Argo). In fact, Jason recognizes the parallel and attempts to alter the outcome.

In Deathworld vs. Filibusters, the remains of the defeated armada (mentioned in "The Mothballed Spaceship") turn to piracy under the leadership of one Henry Morgan. Jason dinAlt is hired by the same casino he won a fortune from at the start of the series to steal back the money Morgan took from the casino. Jason's plan fails when he and Meta are captured by Morgan's men and taken to their hidden planet. In no time, Jason makes up another daring plan—lead the pirates to Pyrrus for a pirate-Pyrran face-off.

In The Creatures from Hell, strange eruptions occur all over a semi-backward planet. Unknown creatures are seen rising from the lava. As usual, the planetary authorities turn to Pyrrus for help. As the Pyrrans begin to investigate, the truth is revealed about the rulers of the planet and the crops they are growing there.

In Foes in Intelligence, super-titled Deathworld 7, the Roog civilization plans to invade Pyrrus. In order to ensure the success of the operation, they decide to kidnap one of the Pyrran leaders for study. As luck would have it, instead of their original target (Kerk Pyrrus), the Roogs kidnap Jason dinAlt—the only Pyrran who would even think of trying to convince the captors that "trade is better than war".
