Difficult to do when you’re the most notorious sorcerer in the Hallowed World and you’ve got a demon queen from the Seventh Hunger trapped in your head!
My name is Ambrose Drake, and I’m a third-generation sorcerer living in exile in London.
Oh, yeah and magic is real. Fae, demons, sorcery, the whole thing.
I used to be a corporate drone working for the Crown, the not-so-secret society that controls sorcery and protects our world from all the nastiness below.
Then I got myself hooked by a mesmer snare which dragged me all the way down to the Seventh Hunger, where I met a demon queen intent on hijacking my body and riding all the way up to our world.
But it turns out the demon queen got more than she bargained for. She can’t kill me, can’t take over the world, but I also can’t get rid of her.
Now I’m quite literally up to my elbows in trouble.
Working as a glorified supernatural pest inspector for the Crown (you know, the organization that banished me to London in disgrace) I’m currently wrestling with a house-bound entity that is seconds away from tearing me limb from limb.
And I haven’t even had my morning coffee!
Brine Council (#2)
Heed the Brine song, for the Old Gods have returned, and the world will drown in brine and darkness.
On the back of his confrontation with the Crimson King, formerly disgraced Crown sorcerer, Ambrose Drake, is sent to picturesque Port Douglas to investigate a curious emergence. Still reeling from his recent elevation to Regional Director, Drake and his companions are confronted by something ancient and hungry which has clawed its way out of the briny depths.
Drake must meet this challenge while struggling to control the powerful Sovereign who resides within his flesh, a Hungerborn being that threatens to tip the balance and send Drake and his companions to a watery death.
Blood Grove (#3)
“I have not come to bring war, but to gift eternity.”
An enigmatic figure emerges into the Hallowed World, promising a gift of unfathomable worth to the people of earth. Crown sorcerer, Ambrose Drake must negotiate terms with this peaceful invader, but Drake and his companions soon find themselves drawn into a warped reality from which there seems no escape.
Coupled with this external threat, Drake fights a losing battle with the demonic sovereign housed in his mind, a battle whose outcome may well determine the fate of the Hallowed World.
Dark Whispers (#4)
Forced to flee to the First Hunger and escape the wrath of the Crown and their new, deranged leader, Drake and his companions soon find themselves caught up in a civil war which threatens to tear the cosmos apart. A new enemy, one of the elder gods, has risen from obscurity, aligning herself with Chaos itself in a bid to topple the existing hierarchy and reshape the multiverse to her own designs.
Midnight Chapter (#6)
“What good is a patchwork sorcerer in a patchwork universe?”
The cosmos has been shattered and all that remains is a single city, Haven.
As Ambrose Drake fights to secure a place for his family in the last city on earth, dark currents swell, and malevolent forces prepare to pounce.
The city is poised to erupt and, as usual, Drake finds himself at the center of it all.
