I was looking for some writers similar to Charles Bukowski for a long time, but didn't find anyone worth. If u know any book like Ham on Rye or any other writer like bukowski, let me know.

One more thing, please dont suggest names like William S. Borroughs, Hunter S. Thompson. They only wrote about junkies. Nothing special, just flat books.

I want Bukowski's gut wrenching style - simple, straight to the point, no sugar coating, black humor - kind of Louis Ferdinand Céline's styles. If you are fan of bukowski you know what I'm talking about. If u know anything, let me know.

The fight club author right? Good style. Not Bukowski type, but he is good at his own.

Thanks man.

I have the same issue man. Discovered Bukowski recently and going through his collection but also seeking out related authors and only getting results Burroughs and the like. Bukowski is one of a kind.

Alexander Trocchi - Young Adam?

And there's a movie based on this novel with Ewan McGregor and Tilda Swinton. I like it.

Definitely John Fante. Check out The Road to Los Angeles, Wait Until Spring Bandini, Ask the Dust, and Dreams of Bunker Hill. The novels follow the character Arturo Bandini similar to Charles Bukowskis novels following the character of Henry Chinaski.

If I want to try a book by Bukowski, can I pick up any of his books, or is there one that is a better start than all the rest of his books?

Post Office (1971) is his first novel. Try it.
