I love the Jack Reacher series, the film not so much. Similar authors that I enjoy include Harlan Coben (Myron Bolitar series) and Chris Kuzneski. Not quite the same, but still very enjoyable are the Michael Connelly books. I have also been advised to check out Henning Mankell.

I've quite enjoyed the Matt Hilton books in the 'Joe Hunter' series. He's a bit like Reacher, helping solve others problems, fairly simple but enjoyable storylines, i'm afraid I don't have any links to share though :(

Jack Reacher is actually based on a character Spenser, a series of 40 novels by Robert B. Parker.

The books are old (think the first one, The Godwulf Manuscript, is 1973) but Parker makes PI Spenser witty and funny as opposed to Reacher's dry and blunt manner. Plot's are just as entertaining and the character really develops throughout the series.

I have them all in mobi format; if anyone is interested, I'll post up links!

Surprised nobody has mentioned Christopher Reich yet. His "Rules of Deception" espionage thriller trilogy uses modern-day settings/technology featuring his main character Dr. Jonathan Ransom. Fast-moving and tense!

As others have said Robert Crais' Elvis Cole and Joe Pike series is the nearest you will get to Lee Child's Reacher series. The first book in the series is called "The Monkey's Raincoat", which is a very enjoyable read and is written in a very similar style to Lee Child's Reacher novels.

Although Robert B Parker's Spenser series may be a inspiration for Reacher, the writing styles aren't very close. That is not to say they are not a great read though, the same could be said of Michael Connelly's novels which also take inspiration from Parker's works.
