Larry Jeff McMurtry died at home on March 25, 2012 of Congestive Heart Failure.
McMurtry (1936–2021) was the author of twenty-nine novels, predominantly set in either the Old West or contemporary Texas; including the Pulitzer Prize–winning Lonesome Dove, three memoirs, two collections of essays, and more than thirty screenplays. He lived in Archer City, Texas. His novels: Horseman Pass By (Hud); The Last Picture Show, and Terms of Endearment, were adapted into films. McMurtry penned the Screenplay for the movie Brokeback Mountain based on a Short Story by Annie Proulx.
