I read it years ago it was given to me in rough shape with no cover i think it was the early 90's maybe mid 90's

All I remember was it was about an ordinary guy ordinary life

Then he meets this woman and they get chased by "something"
His world of ordinary meets her world of unusual.

I swear it was by koontz but I looked up many of his books and did not find it.

Can you give any details on what they were chased by? What the location or time/area setting was?

How did they run, on foot, in cars etc? I've read every Koontz book aside from any in the last couple years, so if you can give me more details, I can probably tell you if it is.

Is it Watchers? If it had a dog in it then it's probably Watchers.

It sounds like it might be THE GOOD GUY by Koontz. Ordinary guy named Tim gets mistaken for a hitman, handed a photo of the target and an envelope full of cash, decides to warn the target instead and the real hitman ends up coming after them both. (iirc, the target's name was Linda.) Any of that ring a bell?

just an update.. i still have not found the book.
none of the suggestions have panned out.

only thing i can add, is that it was based in modern times 1980-2000.
they fall in love, but i cant remember if its quickly or slowly.
the guy who gave it to me was into scfi and horror, it was more horror then scifi..
the man the the main character and the story centers around him.
i want to say there were supernatural overtones,in the villain (whoever or whatever it was) and the woman. but it could have been scifi not fantasy
it was published before 2000 im 90% sure

its been a very long time since i read the book
i cant say if it was koontz but i have looked at virtually every book of his and they were not it

In Dragon Tears they are chased by a "Golem" but not exclusively. The guy is a cop. I don't want to spoiler what's actually the secret behind the golem with too much detail but definitely supernatural.

i want to say the supernatural was following the girl and the guy gets roped in.. ( and blah blah they fall in love eventually)

i don't recall it as a horror, i usually don't like the category, but then i don't think of the original "the shinning" movie as a horror either...
(just the supernatural driving a guy nuts)

the story i read was defiantly situated in the USA.
