Flash Radio and SPL

Now that you have root, see Here , you will want to apply "Hard SPL" to your phone. HardSPL is what will allow you to apply flash images from other regions (like UK on US phones, and vice versa), create full backups of your phone, install the latest build from the Android source, and usually resurrect your phone if it is "bricked". To avoid "bricked" phones let's flash our "Radio" first. You have already downloaded these files to your SD card, so now you can apply them.

1. Power off your phone.
2. Start up in recovery mode by holding home and pressing power.
3. You will now enter recovery mode.
4. Press Alt+A to see the .zip files
5. Select the Radio file.
6. After the update is complete, hold Home and press Back to restart.
7. Press Alt+A again and select the Hard SPL file and repeat the previous step when the update is complete

Flashing New ROMs
Now we can finally start flashing ROMs!!! You are still running an old version of Android, but you want to upgrade to the latest and greatest update! You can do this, and not lose root by downloading modified versions of the updates.

1. Download the image
2. Copy it to your phone's SD card.
3. Turn your phone off
4. Start up in recovery mode by holding Home and pressing Power.
5. Press Alt+W to wipe your device. (You need to do this, or the device may hang at the flashing Android screen)
6. Press Alt+A and select your ROM file to apply the update.

EDIT:
If you are already root and just want to install the latest Cyan's Recovery then just download and place the file onto the root of your SD card and type this in terminal:

Code:

flash_image recovery /sdcard/cm-recovery-1.4.img

also note that gsm and cdma phones are different.... people shouldnt be flashing a gsm rom to cdma..youll end up bricking it. the cdma side of the hero (the one i have) has just been rooted recently and the modaco rom is available...but im going to wait until it stabilizes with more roms first before i mess with that... and since 2.0 is coming out, that will be a whole different ball game ;)
